1. What this covers

This policy describes how Sharp Thought ("we", "us") handles your information when you use the Sharp Thought apps and website. It covers the web app, the mobile apps, and this site.

2. What we collect

• Account data. Email address, display name, and password (stored as a salted hash by our authentication service). Used to sign you in and to send account emails such as verification and password reset.
• Journal content. Your entries and notes are stored on your device first. When sync is enabled, content is stored on our servers with end-to-end encryption as that capability rolls out; where encryption applies, we hold ciphertext we cannot read.
• Profile image. If you upload an avatar, it is stored under your account in our media storage and shown only to you.
• Settings. Preferences such as reminder time and display options, synced so your setup follows you across devices.
• Usage metadata. Coarse, content-free signals: the days on which your account made requests, and anonymous per-quote counts (for the "N wrote on this" feature). Never the text you write, never your route through the app.
• Optional context. If you enable "Sense place & weather", your approximate location is used on-device to tag entries. It is part of your journal content and treated the same way.

3. What we do not do

• We do not sell or rent your data — to anyone, ever.
• We do not show ads and do not share data with advertisers.
• We do not read your journal, and we never log entry text or personal details to analytics or crash reporting.
• We do not train AI models on your journal.

4. Third-party AI services through Cloudflare (CF)

When you use AI chat, your messages and the conversation context disclosed in the chat interface are sent to third-party AI services through Cloudflare (CF) to generate answers. The current AI provider is MiniMax. Follow-up requests may include earlier conversation exchanges within the displayed context limits. Private journal text is included only when you choose to attach it using the chat controls.

The registration agreement and chat disclosure state:

I agree to send my messages and the disclosed conversation context to third-party AI services through Cloudflare (CF) for AI answers. AI is optional. Saved Path conversations have separate download and clear controls.

AI is optional. Accepting the registration agreement does not itself send content or enable chat. Turning off AI chat clears its current in-memory conversation and unsent draft from the app and stops further chat requests until you enable it again. It does not delete saved chats or your Journal entries, or recall information already sent to Cloudflare or the AI provider. Clearing the app conversation is not a promise that provider-side records have been deleted.

Third-party processing is subject to the relevant service's terms and privacy practices. We do not promise that all providers retain no data after a request. Cloudflare's AI Gateway logging documentation describes its logging controls. AI answers can be inaccurate and do not provide medical advice or diagnosis.

General chat history and quote research: after accepting the updated chat notice, completed questions and answers are saved to your account for reopening across devices. Attached journal context is not stored separately in chat history, although your messages and AI answers may contain private details. Use Past chats to delete a saved conversation, or download the current conversation. Starting a new chat keeps earlier saved chats. For questions about a quote's historical context or source, the server can send the public quote and author directly to MiniMax's search service. It does not send private writing or conversation history as search queries. Retrieved excerpts then accompany the answer request through Cloudflare AI Gateway, and the reply identifies the sources used. Search can fail or return incomplete evidence.

AI consent: the web app asks once and remembers your choice for this account in this browser. Review or withdraw it in Me. This preference does not store a conversation; other private writing still requires the attachment control, while Path chat uses only its disclosed current page.

Notebook shelf: plain and daily-quote notebooks are private to your account. Pages save automatically with a browser recovery copy while syncing. You can download or remove a notebook. The public shelf contains editorial collections of already-published quotations, not private member writing. Continuing or restarting a completed Path appends pages and preserves earlier writing.

Path notebooks: starting a Path creates an account notebook. Writing and footnotes save automatically, with a browser recovery copy while syncing. The first saved words complete that day's practice; the next page unlocks the following local date. Optional Compi chat has separate consent to AI processing and saved conversation storage. With that consent, sending a question includes the current unlocked page's guidance, up to 6,000 characters of saved writing and footnotes, and bounded conversation history. It does not send other notebook pages. Earlier clients may separately attach session memory. Turning chat consent off stops new sends but keeps saved conversations. Download or clear a conversation, or remove the notebook to delete its writing and chat from the active account database. Separate Journal copies remain. Backups may retain deleted data until they expire; deletion cannot recall requests already processed by AI providers.

5. Where your data lives

Journal content lives in your device's local storage first (the app works offline). Synced data is stored on Cloudflare infrastructure (database, media storage) under your account identifier. Authentication is handled by our own account service; sign-in tokens are kept in memory and platform secure storage.

6. Your rights and controls

• Export. One-tap full export of your entries is always available, on every tier.
• Deletion. You can delete entries and notes at any time. To delete your account and all server-side data, contact us at the address below.
• Access & correction. Ask us and we will show you what account data we hold and correct anything inaccurate.

7. Cookies and local storage

The apps use browser local storage for your session token and cached profile so you stay signed in, and a local database for your journal. No third-party tracking cookies are used.

8. Children

Sharp Thought is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect their data.

9. Changes

If this policy changes materially, we will note the new effective date here and inform you in the app before the change takes effect.

10. Affiliate links

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Some book links on our website are Amazon affiliate links.

When you follow one, we record only that a link of that kind was clicked — never who you are, never what you were reading or writing, and never anything from your journal. Amazon then handles the visit under its own privacy policy, which we do not control. Nothing about affiliate links reaches your journal, and no journal content is ever used to choose them.
